Free tool · refreshed quarterly
What a month actually costs, city by city.
Set your budget and the kind of place you want to live in, and see which cities clear it. Twenty cities across Southeast Asia and Latin America. Every figure is one we checked ourselves against a named local source, with the date it was checked. No crowd-sourced averages, no global database we can't stand behind.

These eight are in the verification queue. We publish a city when every line has a named source and a date, not before.

Where the numbers come from
Rent from national statistics offices and the dominant local listing portal in each market. Groceries, utilities and transport from each country's statistics office price indices, with transit fares taken from the operator. Health cover from live quotes with the insurers we'd recommend anyway. Every quarter we also price one real listing and one real grocery basket in each city by hand, which is what the "checked" date refers to.
We do not republish crowd-sourced cost data, and we no longer draw on the CIA World Factbook, which was discontinued in February 2026.
